I found this puppy.
I was on my way home from a late night ice cream run when I noticed something odd in my headlights. There she was, a tiny little lump in the middle of the street.
She was soaking wet, shivering, and oh my goodness she gently licked my hand when I put it toward her to sniff.
The girls are calling her Rory. She has the sweetest disposition, and is just amazing with the kids.
I hate to think that someone just dumped her out here in the country, but it happens more often than you’d probably care to know. So far, no one has claimed her.
Jeremy laughed when I brought her in, because, see, it’s not the first time I’ve walked through the door with an animal in my arms.
I’m a stray magnet. I’ve rescued strays my whole life, at least 50 of them if I were to try and count them.
Cats and dogs of all colors, shapes and sizes. Even a pot-bellied pig, once, when it showed up after a storm.
Does this happen to everyone?
Do animals just offer themselves to you?
My husband thinks most people just look the other way. But that’s not possible for me.
One time, a dog offered itself to me and in my rear view mirror I could see it watching me as I drove away.
The next day I went back to look for it, and it was nowhere to be found. I was so ashamed of myself for not helping it. I promised myself I’d never do that again.
So, I’m the crazy cat/dog lady. It’s just who I am. At least I’m always in good company!

I was you before I had my kid and got divorced. Problem was, the one’s I tried to rescue were always terrified of people. Or may be me…oh, now I get it
Well, as someone who has volunteered countless hours, dollars, and multistate road trips all in the name of dog rescue, I have to say that I adore you all the more for it.
I think living “out yonder” you probably run into more of that than the normal person. Too many people feel totally okay in dumping thier animals. And while I understand, if you have to choose between feeding your kids and feeding an animal, the choice has to be made. There are about 1000 better options that dumping.
I totally understand the impulse, though. Many a time have a chase an animal on the freeway, or down the busy street. Or spent hours and hours searching for a stray’s home. You are just adorable. 🙂
May she bring your family many moments of comfort and joy.
You have a very special attitude, and you probably also come across more than your fair share of strays. This one is a real cutie – maybe a keeper?
That icecream run was meant to be. Imagine if someone came along and ran the little one over. And yes, animals (cats) always find me. I have taken in a lot of cats because it just doesn’t often occur to me to not make it my business.
I think kind people always are the rescuer of animals. I love that pup what a doll and Rory. I hope if it is lost the owners find you if abandon then I hope you can keep him.
I grew up on a farm, and always rescued strays. At one point we had 27 cats! Not all strays of course, but several were. These days I can’t because my husband is allergic to dogs and mildly allergic to cats. Thankfully I don’t see many animals in need, or my heart would break. I have been known to drop a stray cat off at my dad’s farm though…
