>Today is the 10th anniversary of our first date. Although at the time, we were just friends catching a movie. Which was Titanic, so just friends catching a romantic movie.
>Blythe has been running a high fever, and the doctor has no idea what’s wrong with her. He assumes it’s “a virus”. Last night her temp reached 103.1, and I was scared out of my mind. Today she’s feeling much better, and the last time I took her temp it was 98.8. Whew!
>Blythe discovered that she can put her foot in my mouth while she nurses. It makes her laugh, and I’m amazed at her flexibility.
>When attempting to home-make chocolate for dipping, do NOT also talk on the phone and cook chili. There is a very small window of opportunity before the chocolate becomes more like frosting.
>BOSSY is making the San Francisco stop on her Excellent Road Trip today. Jeremy and I are getting ready to head down to meet her! Is my husband the best or what?
A TV *STAR*
One of my favorite places on Earth, The Birth Center, asked me to be in their new commercial, airing on Surewest Cable. I do whatever I can to help them out, so of course I said YES! A few weeks ago I went and did my thang. I’ve never been on TV before, so ~ well, no. I’m not telling the truth. I have been on TV before, once when our local cable channel interviewed me about a youth program I was involved in, back in the day. I got to be on the radio for that one, too! And then also when our plane ingested a flock of birds upon take-off and we had to do that whole emergency landing with only one engine, our heads between our knees, all the while smelling something burning. Yes, I was on TV that time, too. The news crew interviewed me as we exited the plane. And as I recall, my poor sister had some strange crick in her neck at the time where if she didn’t take muscle relaxers right on schedule, she could only look to the right. When she drove in the car with someone (which was all the time because hello you can’t drive a car when you can’t swivel your head!), it looked like she was very angry at them. It’s too bad her crick wasn’t to the left, so that she looked in love with them. Anyway, she really, really needed to take her meds and had to wait while they finished interviewing me. She wasn’t so happy about that.
So anyway, I’ve never PLANNED to be on TV as an ADULT, so I was very excited and nervous. I saw the commercial for the first time last weekend and it turned out SO GREAT! TBC is planning to ad the commercial to their website soon, so you can check it out at their link. Oh, and if you are in the greater Sacramento Area, consider Natural Childbirth at The Birth Center! It’s a nice way for a family to be born!
Here I am, on set.

Apples & Oranges and Peas & Carrots
Alison’s cousin is about six months older than her. Which means people have been comparing them since, oh, about the moment she was born. Possibly even sooner, as she poked her foot around in my belly. I recognized fairly early on that comparing them was like comparing apples to oranges: one you can bite right into, the other needs some careful peeling. One is rough, the other smooth. Both fruits have great characteristics but you can’t really say one is better tasting, because an apple is an APPLE, and an orange is an ORANGE. Of course, if you are the mother of an orange or an apple, you may have a preference.
So for the past 4 1/2 years, Alison’s cousin has come over to play and each time there are tears, frustration, temper tantrums. Toy snatching, pouting, hugs and kisses. Time-outs, noses to corners, missed naps and promises to be best friends forever. A tumultuous relationship, to say the least. Last weekend Alison’s cousin came over and for the first time, EVER, there were no tears. They played together for HOURS, people. HOURS. I still can’t get over it. I even invited Alison’s cousin back “soon”. Which was yesterday, and maybe I had my hopes up way too high. Because not 5 minutes into the visit, Alison got run over by the JEEP. On PURPOSE. Which led to lots of tears, on both sides. Apples and Oranges, crying over the same event but for different reasons. Fortunately, a little Hello Kitty will solve just about any problem and they were back to playing in about half an hour. My greatest hope is that they’ll be more tolerant of each other’s differences as time goes on. My greatest fear is that my own two will end up polar opposites. Because apples and oranges living in the same household? THAT would send me to the loony bin for sure.
I call this one: “Peaceful Cooperation”
SPRING has sprung
Although we still get a cool, breezy day every now and then, Spring has officially arrived in our valley. For Alison, spring is synonymous with:
flowers
endless swinging
planting our garden
eating lots of fruit
staying up *late* (till 8!)
and the very best thing about spring:
an abundance of BABY CHICKS
Needless to say, we are spending a good portion of our days outside. You were wondering why my posts were becoming so sparse, weren’t you? Unfortunately my wi-fi doesn’t extend to the swing set.
Even dogs with macho names like “Cage” can stop to smell the flowers.
Can you spot our jungle kitty? He leaps from place to place when we go on walks.
More to come:
As I type, Alison and her Daddy are planting my garden for me in some fresh garden soil (read: seasoned manure, but don’t tell Alison).
You’ll have to wait on the pictures of BABY CHICKS, because I’m just mean like that.
